Webinar #21: Building a healthy academic culture - Preventing and addressing harassment and bullying

What are the effective strategies to prevent and address harassment and bullying in academia?

Whilst many in academia strive to provide a secure and inclusive space for learning, research, and collaboration, harassment and discrimination can still occur.

Research findings have highlighted incidents of sexual harassment, bullying, microaggressions, and unequal treatment based on gender, race, ethnicity, or other protected characteristics. These experiences can have detrimental effects on the well-being, career advancement, and overall success of individuals within academia.

This webinar will focus on what individuals and organisations can do to create a safer and more inclusive academic environment.

In this upcoming webinar, lead of the Women in Research initiative, ARC Laureate Fellow and John Curtin Distinguished Professor Sharon Parker (Curtin University), will share some research evidence around fostering a culture of respect, equity, and inclusivity within the academic community.

She will also be joined by ARC DECRA Fellow Professor Crystal Abidin (Curtin University), who is leading a study on the prevalence of harassment and discrimination in academia with a particular focus on online environments, and will be sharing her insights and advice.
